RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Lens
The RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM is a lightweight and compact super telephoto zoom lens that provides an extraordinary zoom range up to 800mm. This makes it an ideal choice for wildlife, sports, and nature photographers who need to capture distant subjects.
Despite its long reach, the lens weighs just 3.05 pounds, making it easy to handhold. The built-in optical image stabilization provides up to 5.5 stops of correction to minimize blur from camera shake. This allows photographers to capture sharp images and video even when shooting at slower shutter speeds or long focal lengths.
The lens construction incorporates several special elements including fluorite and super UD lenses to reduce chromatic aberration and deliver excellent edge-to-edge sharpness. The lens also utilizes Canon’s ASC (Air Sphere Coating) technology to reduce flaring and ghosting for clearer images.
For added versatility, the 200-800mm lens is compatible with Canon’s 1.4x and 2x RF teleconverters. This extends the focal length to 280-1120mm f/8-13 or 400-1600mm f/11-18, enabling even tighter framing on distant subjects. The lens is also weather-sealed to resist dust and moisture when shooting outdoors in challenging environments.
In terms of operability, the lens has a rotating tripod collar foot for switching quickly between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations. There are also programmable control rings that can be customized to adjust exposure settings like aperture or shutter speed. For video use, the lens supports servo AF and offers smooth and virtually silent autofocus.
At $1899, the RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM hits a very competitive price point for a super telephoto zoom lens. Wildlife, aviation, and outdoor sports photographers will appreciate the tremendous reach and optical performance packed into a compact, lightweight lens. It’s an ideal choice for Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras.

RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z Lens
For photographers and videographers looking for a high-performance standard zoom, Canon has released the new RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z lens. It’s the world’s first full-frame 24-105mm f/2.8 zoom lens, providing constant fast aperture throughout the entire focal range. This makes it exceptionally versatile for everything from landscapes to portraits to everyday walkaround shooting.
The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture enables excellent low-light performance, allowing photographers to shoot in dim conditions. This fast aperture also provides shallow depth of field for gorgeous background blur, especially when paired with Canon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lens incorporates Canon’s highest-grade optics with specialized elements to achieve exceptional sharpness from edge to edge, even when shooting wide open at f/2.8.
Image stabilization provides up to 5 stops of correction, delivering sharp images when shooting handheld at slow shutter speeds. The lens also features fast, precise autofocus driven by a ring-type USM motor. For professional use, the lens has an aperture ring for intuitive manual control over exposure. Videographers will appreciate the natural and smooth focus breathing, allowing for seamless focus racking.
One of the most impressive features of the 24-105mm f/2.8L is its nearly constant length during zooming. The lens barrel barely extends or retracts, maintaining excellent center-of-gravity and balance. This makes it ideal for video use with gimbals, stabilizers, and other rigs where shifting balance can be problematic.
Canon will offer an optional Power Zoom Adapter that attaches seamlessly to the lens to provide power zoom capabilities. This enables smooth, natural zooming that is especially useful for solo video shooters. There will be two versions of the adapter, including one with a 20-pin port for advanced control options.
At $2999, the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z commands a premium price but delivers outstanding optics and versatility for both stills and video. For photographers who desire top-tier L-series image quality in a standard zoom, it’s a worthwhile investment.
