Canon RF 200-500mm F4 L IS USM Lens to be Announced in Q4 2023
According to latest Canon Rumors, the new Canon RF 200-500mm F4L IS USM lens will be officially announced in Q4 2023 or it could come with the EOS R1 in the first quarter of 2024 at the latest.
Canon RF 200-500mm F4L IS USM lens will not come with a built-in teleconverter as rumored before. But don’t worry, there is a nice teleconverter for both Canon RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM and Canon RF 200-500mm F4L IS USM lens. The reason for not having built-in teleconverter is that Canon want to make this lens much lighter. A built-in teleconverter makes the lens bigger and heavier.
It is interesting to see what the specifications of this new teleconverter will be. It would be interesting if the previously patented 1.0x-1.5x-2.0x teleconverter with variable magnification is commercialized.
Canon has a long history of upgrading its lenses in pairs, and the lack of an RF version of the 500mm has many photographers wondering when it’s coming. However, with the recent launch of the RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM, Canon appears to have taken a fresh approach to its super telephoto lenses.
Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens: $9,499 at B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon.
Of course, with all these impressive features comes a hefty price tag. It would be fair to say that the RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM will be another five-digit lens from Canon.
