The compact, lightweight interchangeable, Micro Four Thirds camera, is the entry-level model in the company’s DSLR-style lineup of Micro Four Thirds cameras. It sports a 20MP Four Thirds sensor, in-body image stabilization, flip-down touchscreen with a simple interface and 4K video capture. On paper, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV looks to be a pretty minor update. With other entry-level models boasting more sophisticated autofocus systems and vlogger-friendly features, it might be easy to dismiss as an also-ran, especially given the uncertainty over the future of Olympus’s camera division. But this would be a huge error, because in this case, the whole is rather more than the sum if its parts. Just like its predecessor, it’s a lovely little camera that’s a joy to use and delivers great pictures.
Pros:
- + Excellent JPEG image quality with extremely attractive colours
- + Stylish design and well laid-out, tactile controls make it a pleasure to use
- + Extremely effective in-body stabilisation keeps pictures sharp
- + Good set of useful advanced features
- + Supported by fine set of small, affordable lenses
Cons:
- – Raw image quality lags behind APS-C peers
- – Below-camera selfie screen incompatible with tripod use
- – No microphone socket for video or vlogging

Whilst it may not be the go-to choice for low-light photography, it is very capable of producing pleasing portrait images, with face and eye detection working very well. For more resolution, you could look at other cameras, or you could look at the E-M5 III with its high-resolution multi-shot mode, something that isn’t available on the E-M10 IV. High-speed shooting is possible with up to 15fps continuous shooting available, although the weather-sealing of the E-M5 III and E-M1 III make them more suited for wildlife etc.
While there may be questions about Olympus’ future, this doesn’t stop this camera being able to produce some excellent looking photos, and there is still a huge range of lenses available, with additional lenses still due to be released in the future.
