Canon Patent for RF/EF 400mm f/4 DO, 600mm f/4 DO, 800mm f/5.6 DO Lenses
Canon has filed a new lens patent in Japan. The patent application is for 400mm f/4 DO lens, 600mm f/4 DO lens, and 800mm f/5.6 lens.
The mounts of the lenses in the patent is not clear whether these glasses will be EF mount or RF mount. But according to hi-lows-note these lenses could be RF mount.
Canon lenses which feature the diffractive optical (DO) are smaller and lighter compared to the same focal length lenses but the price becomes generally higher when the lenses have optical formual for DO.
As you might remember next EOS R series full frame cameras rumored to feature IBIS. So this makes sense that RF 400mm f/4 DO, RF 600mm f/4 DO, RF 800mm f/5.6 DO lenses could be made for Canon RF mount. Below are the details of the patent.
Patent : Canon RF/EF 400mm f/4 DO, 600mm f/4 DO, 800mm f/5.6 DO Lenses
The prototypes with IBIS floating are currently being in testing by selected photographers. The 100MP Canon EOS R is expected to be announced in late 2019 to early 2020. And of course along with new Canon Cameras, the company will unveil more native RF lenses in the next several years. See Canon EOS R Review
