PicsArt has released an update to the free PicsArt Photo Studio app.

The new version gives users the ability to work with significantly higher resolution images, share .GIF files, and save drafts of edited images on PicsArt.com.

Now PicsArt will support 8 megapixel images, up from 3 megapixels previously, to match the sensor size of today’s popular smartphone cameras. More megapixels means higher resolution images, so pictures stay vivid and lifelike even after they are uploaded to the PicsArt app.

This is great news for PicsArt’s more than 60 million monthly active users, including a mix of casual and professional photographers and artists, who help carry out PicsArt’s mission of beautifying the world. Now, the 5 million+ images edited and shared through PicsArt every day will pose an even starker contrast to the grainy, watered down images that muddy news feeds across the internet.

Furthermore, images edited and enhanced through PicsArt can now be printed at 300dpi (dots per inch) an industry standard that enables works to be submitted for contests or professional work. The support for 8MP images is just one more reason for professionals to ditch the desktop editor and keep shooting with PicsArt.
