Sony A7S full frame mirrorless camera rumored to feature H.265 codec support via firmware update which will allow 4k video recording directly on an SD card.
Sony A7S full frame mirrorless camera has been announced back in April, 2014. The A7s has become a low-light king and gained a lot of good reviews from pro-users.
A visitor from the CES 2015 show shared an info with the SonyAlphaRumors website, claiming that the A7 series FE-mount mirrorless cameras could get H.265 codec support in the future.
Rumor : H.265 Codec Support Coming to Sony A7S for internal 4K Video Recording
Currently, the Sony A7S supports XAVC-S at 50Mbps and with H.264 codec support which has a higher compression rate, the full-frame mirrorless shooter would be capable of capturing 4K video directly on SD card. Below is the information shared on SAR:
Speaking to Sony rep at CES, he indicated H.265 may be coming to A7x platform. In theory, this could allow A7S to output 4K (H.265) to the SD card due to the lower bitrate possibility. Would eliminate the requirement for external HDMI recorder for 4K, as long as you are OK with the H.265 compression.
The Sony A7S features a 12.2-megapixel with a 35mm full-frame sensor, 4K video recording, ISO 50 to 102,400 (extendable to ISO 409,600) and an improved AF system that remains operational down to light levels as low as -4EV.
