Olympus has announced a new competition to find UK’s best amateur photographers. The competition named as Olympus Protégés.

This summer Olympus are asking the United Kingdom’s amateur photographers to take a shot at becoming a master photographer in a new competition.

To be in with a chance of becoming a Protégé, entrants simply have to select the category that they would like to master, and then upload the photograph they are most proud to have taken along with a message supporting why they should be chosen. Details are as follows!

Olympus announces exciting new competition to find the UK’s best amateur photographers.

This summer Olympus are asking the nation’s amateur photographers to take a shot at becoming a master photographer in a new competition they are calling Olympus Protégés. Entrants to the competition will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the photographic industry.

Mentors from four popular photography genres will coach each chosen Protégé and guide them as they explore the worlds of fashion, music, animals and landscape.

Music lovers will find their perfect partner with rock photographer Mick Hutson, while expert Mark Cargill will show his Protégé the ropes when it comes to stunning landscape images. For those who would prefer to walk on the wild side; animal photographer Lindsay Dobson will teach the art of animal portraiture. Finally, Olympus’ Principal Photographer, Damian McGillicuddy, will coach aspiring fashion photographers on how to pose, light and style the most chic of shoots.

To be in with a chance of becoming a Protégé, entrants simply have to select the category that they would like to master, and then upload the photograph they are most proud to have taken along with a message supporting why they should be chosen. After the application period has ended the mentors will then select three prospective Protégés for each category and the short-listed entrants will be put to a public vote to decide who will be the chosen Protégés line-up.

Each mentor/Protégé team will then embark on a month-long photographic journey, including a short trip away, where they will be set challenges from both Olympus and the general public via the Olympus Protégés site and social media (Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/OlympusUK, Twitter: @OlympusUK), so even those not lucky enough to be chosen can still help shape the journey and have a chance to win fantastic prizes.

During the challenge month, the Protégés website will reflect each team’s progression as they share their experiences and images through blog posts. To demonstrate how becoming a master photographer is simple with a system camera and minimal kit both the mentors and the Protégées will be using an OM-D E-M10 and Olympus Micro Four Thirds lenses throughout the competition.

Olympus Protégés will culminate in an exhibition show casing their best work from the project at the Olympus Image Space gallery in London.
