Sony A1 II Camera & FE 28-70mm f/2 GM Lens Officially Announced

Sony has officially unveiled the A1 II, its latest flagship camera designed to cater to professional photographers and videographers. The company also announces the FE 28-70mm F2 GM, a zoom lens that trades 4mm at the wide end for an aperture that’s a stop brighter than the one found on a classic 24-70mm F2.8. It’s the company’s first constant F2 zoom lens for its E-mount cameras.

The Sony A1 II will retail at $6,498 and is expected to hit shelves in late November 2024. The FE 28-70mm F2 GM will be available in mid-December and has an MSRP of $2,899.

At the core of the A1 II is the 50.1 MP full-frame Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor, paired with the Bionz XR processor and a dedicated AI processing unit. These elements deliver exceptional image quality, including 15-stops of dynamic range, and an extended ISO range of 50-102,400. A new IR sensor and AI processing elevate performance over its predecessor, particularly in autofocus. The camera supports 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) with up to 8.5 stops of performance in the center frame. Advanced features like Composite RAW shooting and 16-image Pixel Shift Multi Shooting create composites with resolutions up to 199 MP.
