DJI announces the Neo, their lightest drone yet
DJI, the world leader in civilian drones and innovative camera technology, today announces DJI Neo, which at just 135 g 1 is the company’s lightest and most compact drone yet. The drone can be fully controlled without a remote controller, takes off and lands in the palm of your hand 1 , features AI target tracking and QuickShots, and delivers ultra-stabilized 4K video with a flight time of up to 18 minutes 1 . Whether flying indoors or out, the integral propeller guards give users the safest experience possible when filming their everyday adventures, alone or with a group of friends.
“At DJI, we’re always looking at everyday camera usage so we can help people capture their videos and photos in the most convenient way possible. DJI Neo is all about giving people the latest technology in the smallest form factor, so they can safely and easily capture their everyday lives and save them as precious memories,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

In the air at the push of a button
By simply pressing the drone’s mode button and selecting the desired recording mode, Neo takes care of the rest automatically, without the need for a remote controller. After capturing 12MP photos with a 1/2-inch image sensor or using DJI’s powerful stabilization algorithms to produce stabilized 4K UHD video with its 4K/30 fps camera 1 , the drone will return to the palm of the user’s hand.
Tell your story with AI Goal Tracking
Neo’s AI algorithms are built to track subjects within the frame. Whether cycling, skating or running, you can create fascinating tracking shots with ease. Even more creativity can be achieved by using Neo’s QuickShots feature, which features six intelligent recording modes 1 that offer a range of different recording angles.
- -Dronie: The aircraft flies backwards and ascends, with the camera fixed on the target, and records a video.
- -Orbit: The drone flies in a circle around the target.
- -Rocket: The drone ascends with the camera pointing downwards.
- -Spotlight: The drone rotates around the object of interest, keeping it in the frame.
- -Spiral: The drone ascends and spirals around the target.
– Boomerang: The drone flies around the target in an oval-shaped path, ascending as it moves away from the origin point and descending as it flies back. The aircraft’s origin point is at one end of the oval’s long axis, while the other end is on the opposite side of the target from the origin point.
Control it your way
The DJI Neo is designed to be used without an additional remote controller. However, it can also be paired with the DJI Fly app, remote controllers, RC Motion, and DJI Goggles, and even used via voice control 1 , for enhanced flight and camera control.
A Wi-Fi connection to smartphones allows Neo to be controlled using the virtual joysticks in the DJI Fly app interface, with a control range of up to 50 meters 1 . The app also allows you to set the following angle and distance, offering greater freedom to film from far away or up close.
When paired with the DJI RC-N3, DJI Neo can achieve a maximum video transmission distance of 10 kilometers1 and offers the opportunity to flexibly operate the camera using traditional remote controller control sticks to capture professional-level shots.
For those seeking an immersive drone experience, DJI Neo can be paired with DJI Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, or the FPV Remote Controller 3. When used with RC Motion 3, DJI Neo masters the art of aerial acrobatics with just a flick of the joystick, flies smoothly indoors, and can maneuver through tight spaces with ease.
Stabilization under the flag
DJI Neo is equipped with a single-axis mechanical gimbal and is able to withstand high speeds or maneuverable flight, as well as winds of up to Level 4. When combined with RockSteady or HorizonBalancing stabilization, overall image shake is significantly reduced and horizon tilt is corrected by up to ±45° 1 , for smooth, stable video that maintains sharpness in both highlight and shadow areas.
By using a monocular infrared visual positioning system, DJI Neo can hover firmly in the air, maintaining stability even in winds of up to Level 4. It also features automatic Return to Home (RTH), so you can use it comfortably and worry-free.
Capture content daily with ease
With 22GB of internal memory, Neo can store up to 40 minutes of 4K/30fps video or 55 minutes of 1080p/60fps video. Once stored, no additional cables are needed to transfer footage; when connected via Wi-Fi to a phone, it will be transferred to the DJI Fly app for easy post-production and sharing.
Audio can also be easily recorded by connecting Neo to a smartphone. With a single press of the audio recording button in the DJI Fly app, it will begin recording through the phone’s internal microphone. Those looking for additional audio quality can use the DJI Mic 2 via a Bluetooth connection. The app automatically removes propeller noise and combines the audio track with the video, ensuring crystal-clear sound, even when recording vlogs from low angles.
The DJI Fly app offers a wide selection of templates and sound and image effects for quick and easy editing. Create and share videos efficiently, without having to download footage for editing, saving space on your phone.
Directly connect the aircraft to a power source with a Type-C data cable for convenient charging. Additionally, DJI Neo’s two-way charging hub can charge three batteries simultaneously 1 , increasing both charging speed and efficiency.
