So what will be the price of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens ?  Let’s run the price estimation together.

As a comparison Canon announced their mirrorless RF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM lens in late February for CP+ Show. The US price of RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Lens is $16,999Also when we look at the Canon RF 400mm f/2.8 which is priced at $12,000 and the Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 at $14,000. It would be fair that the Nikkor Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S lens to be priced between $17,000 – $18,000. So what is your prediction of the price? Feel free to relay your comments below.

The price is unknown at the moment but it will be significantly lower than expected because the new 800mm will be a PF lens. See explanation below.

Phase Fresnel Explained

The PF (Phase Fresnel) lens, developed by Nikon, effectively compensates chromatic aberration utilizing the photo diffraction phenomenon*. It provides superior chromatic aberration compensation performance when combined with a normal glass lens. Compared to many general camera lenses that employ an optical system using the photorefractive phenomenon, a remarkably compact and lightweight body can be attained with less number of lens elements.
