Cosina Announced Three New Voigtlander 35mm f/2 Lenses

Cosina announced 3 new Voigtlander 35mm f/2 lenses: two for Leica M-mount and one for Sony E-mount.

These lenses are the Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical VM and Voigtlander ULTRON Vintage Line 35mm f/2 Aspherical Type II for Leica M-mount, Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical for Sony E-mount. English press text and worldwide price info are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Adopted an apochromat design that makes the on-axis chromatic aberration of RGB, which constitutes the three primary colors of light, as close to zero as possible. A semi-wide-angle lens that doubles as the APO-LANTHAR 50mm F2, a standard lens that pursues ultimate performance. It combines the performance of the best quasi-wide-angle lens in Voigtlander history with the compactness and ease of handling.

Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical for Sony E-Mount

Main features:

Compatible with Sony E mount.

Equipped with electronic contacts, the Exif information of shooting data reflects the usage status of the lens. In addition, since it has a built-in distance encoder, it supports 5-axis camera shake correction on the camera body side. It is also possible to enlarge the viewfinder by operating the focus ring.

Optimized optical design A full-size image circle is secured and an optical design optimized for the Sony E-mount sensor is adopted. High resolution is maintained up to the periphery of the screen, and phenomena such as color cast are suppressed.

Apochromat design In order to support the current digital sensor with high pixel count , axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification are thoroughly suppressed.

12- blade diaphragm blades that allow you to enjoy the expression of bokeh The special shape that makes a circle not only in F2 but also in F2.8, F5.6, and F16 is adopted. It is possible to draw using “ball blur” such as a point light source.

Manual focus that enables reliable focusing. By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit that has been processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling is realized. Allows for delicate focus adjustment.

Aperture click switching mechanism

Equipped with an aperture click switching mechanism that can open and close the aperture ring steplessly without generating a click sound. There is no need to worry about picking up the aperture ring operation sound when recording a video.

As a quasi-wide-angle lens with the highest performance in Voigtlander history, it is an extremely high-performance lens optimized for a full-size M mount sensor. The apochromat design, which makes the RGB axial chromatic aberration that composes the three primary colors of light as close to zero as possible, thoroughly eliminates various aberrations and pursues the ultimate performance in terms of resolution and contrast reproducibility.

Main features:
● Apochromat design
We thoroughly eliminate various aberrations such as axial chromatic aberration, and pursue the ultimate performance in terms of resolution and contrast reproducibility.

● Of the optical glass that leads to high performance and
the lens configuration of 11 elements in 9 groups of the mechanical part , 5 abnormally dispersed glass and 2 double-sided aspherical lenses are used, and a floating mechanism is also equipped.

● 12 diaphragms
that allow you to enjoy the expression of bokeh The diaphragm blades, which consist of 12 diaphragms, adopt a special shape that makes a circle not only in F2 but also in F2.8, F5.6, and F16. It is possible to draw using “ball blur” such as a point light source.

● The shortest shooting distance is 0.5m
. Interlocking with a rangefinder The shortest shooting distance exceeds 0.7m and can be focused up to 0.5m. You can use the live view function of the rangefinder-linked digital camera to get closer to the subject.

● Separately sold bayonet type hood A
beautiful metal bayonet type hood LH-13 with excellent durability is available as an option.

● Manual focus for reliable focus operation
By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling is realized. Allows for delicate focus adjustment.

● Bayonet type VM mount
A VM mount compatible with the Leica M mount is used for the lens mount.

● Equipped with a distance meter interlocking system The
high-precision rangefinder interlocking mechanism enables severe focusing near the maximum aperture.

● Full-size
image circle We have secured a generous image circle that supports full-frame 35mm format.

Exterior brass for both silver / black paint

A wide-angle lens that combines an exterior reminiscent of the styling of a classic lens, which is considered to be a historic masterpiece, with a lens with optical performance that matches modern photography equipment. By suppressing the maximum aperture value to a practical level, both compactness and high optical performance are achieved. Demonstrate the mobility as a snap shooter, which is a characteristic of rangefinder machines.

Main features:

Classical exterior

A classical design reminiscent of the famous ball released in the 1950s (Type.U is the early 1970s). All parts are made of metal and have excellent texture and operability, providing the joy of owning a lens.

Modern lens design

In consideration of use in digital cameras, we have adopted an optical design consisting of 8 elements in 5 groups with measures against color cast around the screen. Maintains good image quality on both film and digital.

The shortest shooting distance is 0.58m

Interlocking with a rangefinder It is possible to focus up to 0.58m beyond the shortest shooting distance of 0.7m. It is very useful when shooting with a camera equipped with a live view function.

Focusing knob (Type.T) with excellent quick-shooting ability can beAdjusted with the focusing knob in addition to the distance ring. You can intuitively grasp the distance setting by touching the knob, which is effective for taking snapshots.

Focusing lever with excellent operability (Type.U)

The focusing lever with a good finger grip supports quick and reliable focusing operation.

Aluminum is used as the separately sold bayonet-type hood material, and the bayonet-type hood LH-12, which has a well-established crystal coating for its classical texture, is available as an option (LH-4N can also be installed).

Manual focus for reliable focus operation

By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling is realized. Allows for delicate focus adjustment.

Bayonet type VM mount

A VM mount compatible with the Leica M mount is used for the lens mount. Not only is it used in rangefinder-linked cameras, but it also has an excellent design balance when attached to a mirrorless digital camera via a mount adapter.

Equipped with a distance meter interlocking system The high-precision rangefinder interlocking mechanism enables severe focusing near the maximum aperture.

Full-size image circle We have secured a generous image circle that supports full-frame 35mm format. In addition, it achieves a very compact style compared to interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras.
