Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L, RF 500mm f/4L, RF 600mm f/4L IS USM Lens Patents
Canon has filed three super telephoto prime lens patents in Japan. These products are the RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens, RF 500mm f/4L IS USM Lens, and RF 600mm f/4L IS USM Lens.
The RF 500mm f/4L will be the first super telephoto prime glass in RF-series lens lineup. In the past, Canon tends to announce super telephoto prime lenses in pairs, so it is a possibility to expect another one like RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens.
These rumored super telephoto prime lenses for Canon full frame mirrorless cameras are expected to arrive in 2020 to 2021. So they are not in the list of Canon RF Lens Roadmap 2020.
Before that we’ll meet the “holy trinity” RF mount lenses” by the end of July, 2019. The mirrorless optics are RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS and RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.
The RF lenses under development are:
- Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM DS
- Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens
- Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS
- Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
- Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM Lens
- Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L (already announced)

Along with these super telephoto prime lenses, Canon may also introduce the EOS R Pro mirrorless camera for sports/wildlife photographers as well as the previously rumored 75MP+ EOS R camera.
