As CES 2018 event is approaching, new products hints started to surface on the web. One of them is a super telephoto zoom glass in the named of AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4 ED TC VR.
We expect this lens will replace the current AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II lens. The Vibration Reduction II Zoom Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras currently selling for $6,996.95 at Amazon.
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4 ED TC VR Lens Coming Soon
As the TC designation indicates that the new Nikkor AF-S 180-400mm f/4 ED TC VR pro-level tele-zoom lens will feature a built-in 1.4x teleconverter. The new version will have a very sophisticated optical formula around 30 elements.
So the price tag of the pro-grade telephoto optic would be higher just like the Canon version. A small note that according to recent reports this lens is the previously rumored Nikkor 200-400mm f/4 lens with a built-in teleconverter.
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4 ED TC VR will be targeted to sports and action photographers. Announcement expected in the first half of 2018 while the release date should start before the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Russia from June 14th to July 15th, 2018.
We expect a reduced weight for this lens against its predecessor. Because the use of fluorite elements simplifies the optical design while increasing the image quality. Fluorine coating on the lens also protects the glass from dirt or all kinds of smudges.
This new AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4 ED TC VR lens will have built-in 1.4x teleconverter like Canon version, and the US price will be similar to Canon version for $10,999. For other Nikon products we expect the Nikon D760 DSLR and a new Nikon mirrorless camera in early 2018.
