Canon’s EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM lens is the most popular lens in the lineup. The upcoming model could be joined by a more expensive, stabilized sibling on the market. The standart zoom lens is currently priced for $2,299.00 at Amazon.

One of the most popular focal length range among photographers is probably the 24-70mm focal length. This has became a standard in zoom lenses and it is usually found with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.
Sources are reporting that Canon is working on a 24-70mm f/2.8L lens with built-in image stabilization technology that would compete against a rumored Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 VR lens. The goal of the lens has been weight, adding image stabilization adds weight and bulk to a lens. Nikon has to add 170 grams to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 VR when compared to the old no VR lens.
Canon didn’t release this lens because the size is too big when with image stabilization feature. Instead the company unveiled a smaller EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II model.
Nevertheless, one thing that will most likely be present in the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens is the BR Optics element. This Technology was introduced in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens and decreases chromatic aberration.
