Three new Canon PowerShot cameras are scheduled to be announced for CES 2018 event in January. The products in question are the previously rumored Canon G5X Mark II, G3X Mark II and one more compact shooter that will be not G-series.
As you might remember, the Japan-based company officially unveiled the PowerShot G1 X Mark III camera ($1,299 at Amazon, B&H, Adorama). This is the flagship model comes with 24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DSLR-like autofocus.
The Canon G5X Mark II, G3X Mark II were expected to be announced for PhotoPlus 2017 but both cameras are delayed till CES 2018 in January.
Three New Canon PowerShot Cameras Coming for CES 2018 in January
According to recent reports, Canon will announce at least three new PowerShot cameras for CES 2018 in January, and two of them will be “G” series compact cameras. This means the Canon PowerShot G3 X Mark II and PowerShot G5 X Mark II are coming for the CES 2018.
Both compact shooters will also feature the APS-C sensor that comes with the G1 X III. On the other hand the PowerShot G3 X Mark II is expected to be very similar to the G1 X Mark III without the EVF.
In addition, I think the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III camera will likely come later at CP+ 2018, not at CES. And currently we are not sure if the smaller Canon PowerShot G9 X and G7 X will move to the APS-C sized sensor.
The rumor mill suggests that the PowerShot G7 X Mark II will not be replaced at CES and will likely come later at CP+ 2018. Meanwhile, the PowerShot SX70 HS is a big question. Official announcement date still remains unknown for this product.
