Fujifilm XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro Lens to be Announced in September
Fujifilm XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro lens is rumored to be announced in September, as a result the Fujinon lens will hit the markets in October.
Back in 2016, the official Fujifilm roadmap showed that a XF 120mm f/2.8 R OIS WR Macro lens is on its way to be announced. Later on, the launch of the mid-telephoto prime lens has been postponed until Q4 of 2016.
However a few months later, Fujifilm updated the roadmap and they’ve cancelled the XF 120 and added the smaller XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro Lens to the roadmap. Now the product is almost finished and ready to be announced in September.
Fujifilm XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro Lens Coming in September, Release Date Scheduled for October
Now let’s remember the details about the Fujinon XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro lens. This would be the first 1:1 macro interchangeable lens in the X-series lineup. It is weather and dust-resistant as seen with the “WR” designation and feature optical image stabilization.
The upcoming Fujinon XF 80mm F2.8 OIS WR Macro lens will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 120mm on X-mount cameras. The optic can be mounted with a teleconverter as a telephoto macro lens. This makes the focal length equivalent to 171mm (in the 35mm film format) with the 1.4x teleconverter and equivalent to 244mm (in the 35mm film format) with the 2x teleconverter.
The rumor mill claims that once the Fujifilm completes the current roadmap with the release of the XF 80mm F2.8 1:1 Macro later this year, the next X-mount lens will be the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 WR model.
