Sony full frame E-mount lens line-up is growing steadily and, according to the recent rumors the company will announce a new FE 400mm optic soon.
In addition to the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and FE 12-24mm F4 G lenses, Sony is actively working on a new FE 400mm telephoto prime lens.
The details of this lens, such as aperture information, size and weight is unknown at the moment. More details after the break!
Sony FE 400mm Telephoto Prime Lens in Development
Even we don’t know what will be the maximum aperture of the lens. It will probably be a bright f/2.8 or f/4. The rumor mill says that two versions is in testing period. One for the fast f/2.8 and one for a more compact f/4.0 lens.
This will become the perfect lens for wild-life, action and sports photographers. Especially with the high-end Sony A9 camera. No price details have been revealed so far, but we do believe that the optic will be expensive.
When we look at the main rivals, the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM lens currently costs around $6899. The Nikon version the AF-S FX NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED has a lot more higher price tag of $11,196. If the aperture of the Sony FE 400mm lens would be at f/2.8, you can expect the price to be above $5,000 mark.
An exact announcement date has not been provided by the sources. Nevertheless, the Sony FE 400mm lens is expected to become official by the end of 2017.
