Canon has filed a new patent in Japan. The application shows of a design for 3.8-380mm f/2.3-7 lens.
As you might guess this lens is designed for a PowerShot compact camera. We mention this optic that’s why it might refer to a 100x zoom lens for a possible PowerShot camera.
The rumor mill already has several talks of a Canon 100x zoom PowerShot model. As a result the expectations were about the Canon PowerShot SX70 that was supposed to be launched with a 100x optical zoom lens.

We have seen many lens patents for cameras with 1/3.2-inch-type image sensors. This is another 100x zoom lens patent. It may be a sign that Canon will announce the PowerShot SX70 camera in the near future.
