Canon has filed a patent for a new zoom lens in Japan. The new optic describes the EF 40-800mm f/4.5-5.6 telephoto zoom model.
Looks like an all-in-one lens, it is designed for Canon digital SLR cameras with full-frame image sensors. On the other hand the patent application refers to 2 optical formulas.
One for the full-frame lens and 2 for the Powershot type of cameras. So it might refer to a zoom lens for such a PowerShot compact. From the EF designation we believe it would be a full-frame lens. If so the new EF 40-800mm F4.5-5.6 lens to be announced before the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
