More previews and samples are now available online for the Canon EOS 5Ds and 5DS R DSLR camera.
George Lepp and three other Canon Explorers of Light had a chance to test out the brand new Canon EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R for photos that have been shown at Canon’s booth at WPPI Convention in Las Vegas.
The-Digital-Picture has posted a full review for the Canon EOS 5DS and the bottom line says “Canon 5Ds to perform amazingly and to show us detail like we’ve never seen before.”
Canon Asia posted a two part article about the new EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R:

From George Lepp :
My response to the new camera was that it will be very important to those that can use the technology that is available. If you don’t need a camera with tremendous resolution for large prints or exceptionally high data for cropping, then this will be too much camera for you. It will tax your computer with 300 MB 16bit files. Even the 8bit files are 150 MB when open. The RAW files are approximately 60 MB in size. The dynamic range when working on the files in Canon’s DPP and Photoshop CC 2014 was quite good and pretty much matches my EOS 7D MKII.
From The-Digital-Picture review:
While I expect that all genres of photographers will find the 5Ds well-suited for their needs, it is the commercial, studio, portrait, still life, landscape, nature and architectural photographers that will be especially interested in this camera’s resolution combined with its pro-grade package of features including rugged build quality. My personal plan is to replace my two 5D Mark III bodies with a pair of 5Ds bodies. Whether I end up with two 5Ds bodies, a pair of 5Ds R bodies or a combination of the two remains to be seen, but my guess is that I’ll want two “R”s. I plan to order one of each and will decide which configurations I keep after thoroughly testing them. I will use my 1D X for fast action and also in low light scenarios if the 5Ds’ reduced size image quality does not remain superior to the 1D X image quality.
Canon Professional Network posted “The EOS 5DS & EOS 5DS R explained”, a technical article :
The EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R represent a new line of ultra high-resolution EOS DSLR cameras – featuring 50.6 Megapixel sensors – that are ideal for photographers who want to capture an extraordinary amount of detail in their images. The new cameras will be popular with those shooting landscape and architectural photography, as well as those shooting commercial or high-end editorial work in the studio. The EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R sit alongside the EOS 5D Mark III in the EOS range, and use new technologies to make the most of both of the cameras’ high-resolution capabilities.
Exploring the EOS 5DS with Eberhard Schuy – Canon
Canon Explorer Eberhard Schuy was one of the first to use the recently launched 50.6 Megapixel EOS 5DS.
As mentioned in the official announcement both cameras are identical. The only difference is the effect of the EOS 5DS R’s low pass filter. Like the EOS 5D III the new cameras offer 1080/30p video but do not feature microphone sockets or HDMI out.
50MP Canon EOS 5Ds and 5DS R DSLR cameras also features dual DIGIC 6 processors, a 61-point AF system with 41 cross-type points and a 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with 252 zones. The EOS 5DS and 5DS R are capable of 1080/30p HD video recording and offer dual SD/CF card slots.
50MP Canon EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R Price
The cameras will be available in June 2015. The Canon EOS 5DS will sell for $3699 body-only; the EOS 5DS R will sell for $3899 body-only.
