Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens Test Results

DxOMark published their sensor review and test results for the Zeiss FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS (SEL1635Z) full-frame wide-angle zoom lens which is currently priced for $1,349.99 at Amazon.

Zeiss 16-35mm FE test results shows the lens score of 26 points and performed well.  The score is the best result among the three f/4.0 wide angle zoom tested by DxOmark.

The new Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS lens performed a peak sharpness equivalent to 16-Mpix may look a little low based on the 36-Mpix sensor of the Sony A7R but it is a good score for a ultra-wide zoom.

The Zeiss FE 16-35mm F/4 ZA OSS is the fifth full-frame lens for Sony A7 series camera. The lens offers Optical Steady Shot stabilization and is dust and moisture-resistant.

From DxOMark Conclusion :

The addition of stabilization to this ultra-wide zoom was crucial, not only to appeal to that group (in addition to stills photographers) but also to compete with rivals. Both Nikon and Canon already offer a similar lens. While the new Sony Zeiss offering is likely to be popular, it isn’t that much smaller or lighter than those rival models made for DSLRs. Given that it’s more expensive and that is doesn’t convincingly outperform them either is a pity, but hardly unexpected. Lenses like this are a balance of compromises and overall the Sony isn’t likely to disappoint.
