The new Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS wide-angle zoom lens designed for Sony full frame mirrorless cameras announced at Photokina event this year. Now the Zeiss FE 16-35mm F/4 ZA OSS lens has been reviewed online.

The Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35 mm F4 ZA OSS is an excellent ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for the Sony A7/A7R/A7S full-frame compact system cameras. [… ] All in all, we’d definitely recommend buying this lens if you can stomach the price of admission – it makes an excellent addition to the already released Zeiss FE 24-70mm F4 and FE 70-200mm F4 lenses.

The FE 16-35mm is an adequate replacement of the A-Mount, at least from the perspective of image quality. An aperture stop less light is something to get over, because this is easily compensated by the better ISO performance of the α7 in comparison to the α99. I am looking forward to many hours of photography with this lens and I think this lens will not be inferior to the A-Mount counterpart in the field of architectural photography.

Images produced with this lens are very sharp and consistent with minimal softness in the corners. I also didn’t notice any chromatic aberration with photos taken at locations with very high dynamic ranges…As far as I’m concerned, this is a Must-Have lens for all of the Sony A7 shooters out there.

Not only was Sony and Zeiss able to engineer a small and lightweight ultra wide angle lens, they were able to do so without sacrificing image quality. I was impressed with the corner to corner sharpness (although it doesn’t de-thrown the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8) as well as how it handles sun stars and can be used hand held with its built in OSS (optical stabilization), especially with the a7s.
